February 2010 HSW Print is pleased to announce that we have successfully become certified to the international environmental standard, ISO 14001. We have been working towards achieving this certification for the past year and have undergone extensive auditing to complete the process. A few years ago we realised the need to start reducing our impact on the environment and as such an environmental management system (EMS) was created. Continuous improvement forms a large part of this EMS and significant changes were made throughout 2009. For example, over 90% of paper we use is now purchased from FSC and PEFC certified sources. This means the paper comes from managed forests. Thus, together with our customers, we can all enjoy peace of mind secure in the knowledge that we are helping both the environment and the community. We are continuing to reduce the amount of waste we generate. However, the majority of waste that we do produce is now re-used or recycled. We're also looking at ways to reduce our carbon footprint; a waste reduction programme was implemented at the start of 2009 which enabled us to reduce the number of cages of waste ink cartridges from 40 to 9. This has led to significantly less waste collections meaning less carbon emissions. Our EMS is evolving all the time and we take great pride in being able to offer our customers printed material that is produced with the minimum impact on our environment.
